The pre-Mattel Samantha I bought is cleaning up very nicely!
I have a question, though. She is definately a pre-mattel doll. I have compared her to both our pre-mattel and new samantha, and she is pre-mattel.
However...she has a plastic ring attaching her head to her body. Do you think she could have had a head re-attachment? Maybe around the time Mattel tried using the plastic rings? That is all I can figure out.
Any thoughts?
I want to sell her, or trade her for other AG things or a doll...if anyone is interested!

I bought my Addy right away when sh efirst came out, and she has a string. However, this Sam is from 1996.

The way in which the doll's head is attached is actually not linked to a specific year or post Mattel shift; PC decided a few years back to open factories in different locations. These varying factories assemble the dolls in slightly unique ways, so there are even differences between the new dolls that you buy today.
Glad to hear your doll is shaping up so well!!

My pre-Mattel addy has the plastic ring also. I bought her new from AG and it was pre-Mattel.
I was pretty surprised by the ring and shocked I never noticed it before.
